Creativity in Literacy

"These books are a valuable resource for active teachers, providing experienced and new teachers fresh and original ideas. The majority of the contents are written to complement the revised literacy outline and includes speaking and listening, and reading and writing activities. It is a valuable resource for literacy coordinators aiming to improve creativity and cross-curricular planning although class teachers would surely benefit for some extra help." - Yasmin Galea, TES Website, March 2008

Creativity in Literacy

What the author has to say about 'Creativity in Literacy':

"When the opportunity arose to write a book for Belair /Folens I was thrilled! Throughout my teaching career I have bought and used the resource books from this publisher. Writing and producing Creativity in Literacy gave me a wealth of opportunity to work with a great many talented and creative people.

My favourite project in the book was one I did with Jed Brignall -an extraordinary artist based in Nottingham. The work she produced with the children at Rufford Junior School, whilst working as an artist in residence is featured in the section of the book Exploring Colour and Shape, as well as the huge sculptures in Time traveling. My favourite was the arching sculptural tunnel that stretched the length of a school corridor. Each child and teacher produced a section of the sculpture from tissue paper, beads and wicker bent into asymmetrical shapes. As a result of our collaboration we are co-writing a book based on her extraordinary life."

Hands on Phonics

What the authors have to say about 'Hands on Phonics':

"We really enjoyed writing the 'Fantastic Mr Fox' chapter of Hands on Phonics as Roald Dahl is one of our all-time favourite authors. This book particularly is great for introducing children of Infant age not only to the stories of Roald Dahl, but also to their very first chapter book which is always magical. In this chapter, like many of the others in our book, we used teaching in role as a stategy for capturing our learners imagination and bringing phonics to life. The children loved the character of Mr Fox and were appalled that Boggis, Bunce and Bean could possibly be so mean! We then used the chapter to teach the children about the phoneme f, knowledge that was consolidated through practical activities, art and display and our cross-curricular work. It was a fantastic project which we all thoroughly enjoyed!"
