Creative History

5 STARS! "This is one of the most appealing art based ideas books in the series. I picked it up from the staffroom and fell in love with it, having to obtain my own copy. It is full of very effective art work that inspires the children through the use of colour. It would be hard to pick it up and not find an art activity that would stimulate and inspire children." - November 2001 - Amazon

Hands on History

"Another winner from Belair World of Display. The Hands on History book offers much to primary age teachers. This cross curricular book brings the visual aspect of art into focus and many of the suggestions are three dimensional with the pictures showing how stunning the work can be when displayed… What a treat!" - TES

Picture the Past

5 STARS! “I first came upon this book in 1995, in my first year of teaching. The display ideas are exciting and easy to adapt. Whatever you are teaching in history, this book is more than useful; and, more importantly, is a timesaver when the time demands on a teacher are ever increasing and the time you can spend on display seems to get shorter and shorter. Highly recommended.” - April 2001 - Amazon

Hands on History

What the author has to say about 'Hands on History':

"My favourite project is from the cover of my first book ‘Hands on History’, it is that of Drake and The Golden Hind. The legacy of Sir France Drake and his global voyages had a special appeal for the children as the school is located in Deptford, the location of the The Golden Hind’s construction and voyages to The New World.

In preparation for the journey, and as ship builders, the children worked in groups of 3 or 4. It was a pleasure to see each group use their ingenuity in making different parts of the ship, one group came upon a good way of making the rigging and sails and were happy to share their knowledge with the other groups. Thus sharing their new-found knowledge, discovered through the act of experimentation.

Each ship took on its own form, but all the children were dedicated to the detail of the original Golden Hind taking care to add everything from The Tudor Rose flag to sailors complete with an earring, and the work was proudly shown in assembly."
